Artist Biography

I have been creating black and white photographs since 1969 when my brother Richard encouraged me to use his new camera. From that moment on, the process of capturing images on film and turning negatives into fine exhibit prints has become how I best communicate my thoughts and feelings. I attended college at the University of Maine at Presque Isle where I majored in Art with an emphasis in Photography. I have also received instruction from Kate Carter and Connie Imboden at the Maine Photographic Workshops in Rockport, Maine.

I have lived in Maine my whole life but have had opportunities to travel to England, Holland, France, Spain, Geece, and Turkey. The combination of these experiences has taught me to see and capture the complexities of the world and to help me document some of the universal struggles and joys we experience as humans. I have relied on my curiosity about life, mankind, and my own existence as the driving force behind my work. My most recent images deal with the human form. I am also exploring digital imagery and the giclee printing process.

I live in West Gardiner, Maine where I am setting up a permanent photography studio. Until completed, I continue to work at Maine Public Broadcasting Corporation as a photographer and graphic artist.
